Technology can help you study for a test or make writing an essay easier, but does it actually help us in the long run? When ever I am doing homework and I hear my phone buzz I get so distracted and wonder who it is. People will always say "just put the phone down" but a lot of people struggle with that because technology is all we know. What if you don't have wifi and you can't do your homework? If we still used pencil and paper that wouldn't be a problem. If technology were to suddenly stop working I am more that positive that a lot of people would die just because they wouldn't know how to do things without it. You can always do simulations on a computer but nothing can beat an actual hands on learning experience. Technology just distracts us.

In this world we give children ribbons, certificates, medals, and trophies for pretty much anything. You get last place in a race??? Oh.....well....ummm....you still get a trophy. When my 2 grandpas and my grandma were children they were very good at sports. My other grandma was a very high achieving scholar. We have a box of some of their trophies in my brothers closest and every once in a while I'll look through it. There are so many trophies in there!!! The only difference now is that they actually deserved all of those trophies. They were some of the best athletes in there province and my grandma actually became a teacher and won several awards. I have run in track meets where everyone gets a ribbon. They will only put 8 people in each long distance event so that everyone gets a ribbon. If a child gets an award for something they think they are good at it, they will think they don't need to improve. If children only get awards for first place then they will strive to do better so they can get the award. Soon trophies, ribbons, certificates, and medals won't mean anything because every kid has them.
Technology can make us connect with people across thaw world that we would have never had the chance to connect with but it can also harm us because people tend to isolate themselves when they have technology. Bonding with someone in person is much more personal than over technology because you can see emotion and other chemicals are released when you actually see a person in real life. This is just my life, but I can spend hours in my room watching pointless YouTube videos and not interact people, real life or over the internet. Many of my friends have this problem, too. You can choose to text someone, but in real life you are sometimes forced to talk to people face to face so it is very hard to avoid being alone. Technology is great on many ways but it makes it very easy to isolate yourself.
Many of todays funny videos are of little kids lip syncing to cringing songs or making a fool of themselves some other way. These videos could ruin a child's life or career because things do not go away once on the internet. These kids can post these things because they have a phone at a very young age. Children do not know how to make rational decisions when it comes to this kind of stuff so why give them the power. Another problem is creepy people taking advantage of kids and their innocence. Many kids do not realize the other person they are talking to can be much older and creepy. I think you should at least be in middle school before you get a phone because you start to become more responsible and have an understanding about how you actions have consequences.
I don't think only one person can change the world because you need a few other people to give you encouragement to follow through with that dream. Martin Luther King Jr. probably had a lot of people agreeing with him, he was just the only person to speak up. Multiple people can change the world but no one can do it alone. #facts
